Charles Whittle writes in to PC Gamer.
Like many a gamer who remembers the glorious fun to be had back in the day of the wondrous X-COM: UFO Defense and X-COM: Terror from the Deep, I yearn daily for someone to bring back that experience, enchanced with modern graphics and a more sophisticated interface. Recently, Dan Stapleton made some remarks on PGGamer.com saying that the lukewarm review of UFO: Extraterrestrials might not be relevant, given that a new free mod has removed many of hte problems the game had and has fixed many of the "broken" game elements. I would like to see a full review of the modded game to see if it's worth having. Does this modded version of UFO: Extraterrestrials give the nostalgic UFO fan the alien-hunting fix that he craves?

PC Gamer responds:

Sorry, Charles -- we don't review mods, just commercially released games. Mods change so fast that by the time we've reviewed one, its gameplay has often changed to the point where the review is no longer useful. However, in this particular case, the modded version of UFO: ET (using Bman's Mod) plays closer to X-COM than anything we've seen in a decade -- but we still won't call the graphics "modern."

Major congratulations to Bman for getting his mod published in the premier gaming magazine.
